What to Expect From a Garage Demolition
Most residential garage demolitions follow a similar process. If the roof contains asbestos cement sheets, these need to come off first and be bagged and removed separately as hazardous waste. Once the roof is clear, the walls come down — whether that's brick, block, concrete panel or timber frame — and all the rubble is loaded and removed from site.
What you're left with depends on what you want. Most customers ask us to leave the base slab in place, as it makes a useful hard standing or base for a future structure. Others want the slab broken up and removed too — we can do either.
Access and Timescales
A lot of people are surprised by how quickly it goes. A standard single garage on a straightforward site can be down, cleared and gone in a single day. Access is the main variable — if we can get a skip or grab lorry close to the site, the job moves fast. We'll flag anything like that when we come back to you with your estimate.
One thing worth knowing — if your garage has an asbestos roof and you've had quotes from general builders or skip hire companies to knock it down, make sure they're properly licensed to handle asbestos waste. Many aren't, and the liability for illegal asbestos disposal can fall on the homeowner.
